Henscrach Farms Country Raspberry

27 Nov

Henscrach Farms in Lake Placid, Fla. is my favorite vineyard i’ve been to yet simply for the reason it also has animals, specifically chickens. It has over 200 free range Rhode Island Red and Plymouth Barred Rocks chickens, a goose, a huge pig, koi fish, and some muscadine and scuppernong grape trees and blueberry bushes. They show you where they make the wine on-site, and have an adorable country store with a wine tasting of 3 different wines for $1.

The type of wine they have rotates with the growing season. I brought home a bottle of Country Raspberry that is made with all raspberries and no grapes, if I remember correctly. I think it was about $12-15. It’s a fairly sweet wine that basically tastes like raspberry juice, and the best part is the bubbles. All the wines I tasted were nice; they also had a blueberry wine as IMG_4751well as a wine with port that had a high ABV but didn’t taste like it did, if that makes sense.

If you’re ever in Lake Placid, this place is worth the stop. They also sold eggs from the chickens, homemade jams and jellies, and adorable wine and kitchen accessories.
